Take a Free Course at Yale in French History

About ten years ago, noted historian John Merriman recorded all of his lectures of the course PARIS SINCE 1871. You can view the lectures on YouTube, or you can listen to them as podcasts on iTunes.

Merriman is a knowledgeable, entertaining guide and teacher. He lives in France, so his lectures are full of asides about various aspects of French culture, in addition—of course—to elucidating the various historic trends in the country over the last century and a half.

The first lecture has good information, but is also about the syllabus and reading list and other technical matters. As a more representative sample, I am instead embedding the second lecture about the Paris Commune. Enjoy!
